I'm on a real movie bender these days. Also I just drank my coffee. Try this oscar double-header on:

Triplets of Bellville - I believe this won the Oscar for an animated feature last year. French movie about a boy who dreams of the Tour de France, competes in it, is kidnapped and made to race against other cyclists in gladitorial combat, and is rescued by his grandmother and the title characters. Oh, and there's virtually no dialog in the entire 90 minutes. Shows once again that the French are cool in some weird way, like the japanese but completely different.
The Best Years of Our Lives - 1946 Oscar for Best Picture. A realistic (I'm told) portrayal of life for three veterans returning from the war. Really a pretty shocking movie as we are so accustomed to WWII pictures being all, "let's give it to the japs, boys!" Entertaining as a snapshot of life just before the cold war and the post-war boom got going. One character expounds on his belief that the economy is going to collapse shortly - something that seems ridiculous in hindsight but would have made a lot of sense in 1946. Another says that coming back from war is tough, but look at the bright side - if there's another one we'll all be blown to bits in the first few minutes. That kind of cutting commentary in old movies always seems kind of weird, especially when Stanley Kubrick isn't involved.
Plus, Myrna Loy is in the movie and on principle I will watch any movie with a Montanan in it. Was she in anything with Gary Cooper? Because that would cover just about every famous actor from Montana, evar.
